Motorola event next month, could be foldable phone launch

Motorola has been working on a foldable phone for months now, according to numerous leaks this year. Fortunately, it seems like we won’t have to wait too long for the device. The manufacturer has sent out press invites to a November 13 launch event, and Android Central‘s invitation includes a teaser GIF (seen below). This teaser apparently shows an old flip phone transforming into what could be the new Motorola foldable phone. This all suggests that we’ll finally see the company’s leaked RAZR foldable phone at the event. Previous leaks paint a picture of a pricey device with upper mid-range specs. The Motorola foldable phone is tipped to arrive with a Snapdragon 710 processor (no flagship chipset here), 4GB or 6GB of RAM, and 64GB or 128GB of storage. The phone is also expected to arrive with a 2,730mAh battery, which is definitely small for a smartphone (foldable or not). As for details related to the foldable design itself, we’re apparently looking at a 6.2-inch OLED s

Moto G5 Sapphire Blue edition lands in the UK as an O2 exclusive

To accompany its Lunar Grey and Fine Gold color variants, the  Moto G5  has now received a Sapphire Blue edition in the UK. The new color option is currently an O2 exclusive and starts at £19 on-contract or £139.99 to buy it outright. Similarly, the larger Moto G5 Plus is also  rumored  to receive a blue edition soon, though this hasn’t been revealed yet. The Moto G5 is the latest model in Motorola’s long-running, low-cost G series, and arrives with a 5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 430 chipset, and 2 GB of RAM. You’ll also find a 13 MP camera on the rear, 5 MP front-facing camera, 2,800 mAh battery and 16 GB of internal storage space — expandable via microSD card. It’s possible that this is a timed-exclusive and that it may land elsewhere before long; I’ve reached out to Motorola to find out more and I’ll update this article if I hear back. Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus Android 7.0 Nougat update rolls out in India

The slow rollout of  Android 7.0 Nougat  to more and more smartphones continues today, as owners of the  Moto G4  and  Moto G4 Plus  in India can now finally download the latest version of the OS. In addition to the upgrade to Nougat, these new updates for Lenovo’s budget-priced smartphones also include the November Android security patches. Since this is a pretty large file to download, Moto G4 and G4 Plus owners in India are advised to connect to a Wi-Fi network to grab this major update. Their phones should also have at least a 50 percent charge beforehand. Finally, the company notes the file could take up to 20 minutes to successfully install on their phone. If you’re a G4 or G4 Plus owner in India and have yet to receive the update, head to your device’s  Settings  menu, then choose  About phone , then  System update . As always the update may take a few days roll out to everyone, so don’t worry if you don’t receive the update right away. If you’re interested in

Cyanogen Inc. shuts down services and OS; open-source CyanogenMod project will remain

Sneaking the big news on the long holiday weekend,  Cyanogen Inc.  has announced discontinuation of the operating system and all services by December 31. Per the official statement, CyanogenMod OS and source code will remain available for the community. The ambitious startup aimed to build a better version of Android, but the software received lukewarm response because the OEMs didn’t want to ditch the Google ecosystem. And then, there were issues with partners like OnePlus who ditched the alliance immediately after the first outing with OnePlus One. The announcement was made in a very uncharacteristic and brief bog post: As part of the ongoing consolidation of Cyanogen, all services and Cyanogen-supported nightly builds will be discontinued no later than 12/31/16. The open source project and source code will remain available for anyone who wants to build CyanogenMod personally. While surprising, the announcement isn’t shocking, really. The company had recently lai

Google I/O 2017 to return to San Francisco’s Moscone West

Attending  Google I/O  is a special privilege for anyone fortunate enough to attend. For gadget nerds like us, scoring an I/O ticket is like winning the Android lottery. It’s an impressive event, no matter which way you cut it, but as many of you would have read this year, it can sometimes not go entirely to plan. Perhaps in light of the negative feedback to this year’s event at the Shoreline Amphitheater in the shadow of the Googleplex, next year’s Google I/O will reportedly return to downtown San Francisco’s Moscone West. For many, this will be a welcome change (if it is true: so far, only  Tech Crunch  is claiming the change of location). Moscone is, naturally, very well set up for conferences. The convention center has nowhere near the capacity as the unrestricted open spaces of Google’s carpark, but it does arguably provide a much better environment in which to consume what I/O is all about. This year’s outdoor event featured long lines in the hot sun, inadequate ses
